Abraham van Alen was a son of Evert Van Alen and Margrietje Fitzgerald (name recorded on his baptism as Vepperels), born on 25 June 1750 and baptized on 15 July 1750 in the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack, New York. [1][2][3]
Abraham E Van Alen, a tailor, was married to Mary Fryenmoet in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kinderhook, Albany County, New York, on 18 February or 16 March 1771. Both were of Albany County; Mary was described as a spinster (i.e., it was her first marriage), and there is no indication of Abraham's previous marital status.[4]
Abraham was a patriot during the American Revolution. He was a private in Col. Abraham Van Alstine's 7th Regiment. [5]

However the letters were interchangeable. I and J, A and E, as well as others. For instance John E Van Alen appears as both John A and John E in court documents and warrants. James I Van Alen (half brother of Martin Van Buren), was the son of Johannes.
Additionally the Van Alen family, at least Pieter's branch, did not seem to follow the traditional patronymics.
Van Alen-119 and Van Alen-108 appear to represent the same person because: I am convinced that Abraham E Van Alen was the son of Evert Van Alen and Marg. Fitzgerald. The connection with "Adam Van Alen" -- and indeed the existence of the Adam Van Alen described in the profile -- is a mistake by a 19th-century genealogist. Please merge -- and please disconnect Adam Van Alen from the father slot.
I think Abraham E Van Alen was the son of Evert Van Alen (in this time period, the "E" typically indicated the father's first initial), presumably the child of Evert Van Alen and Marguerita Fitzgerald who was baptized in Claverack on July 15, 1750 (Getty, page 179). His giving the name Evert to his first son is consistent with his father being named Evert.
